All procedures have limits and risks. Glasses or contact lenses remain reasonable choices. Reading glasses may still be needed with age.
The main difference is how the surgeon reaches the corneal tissue: beneath a flap, from the surface, or through a small incision.
A flap is lifted, an excimer laser reshapes the cornea beneath it, and the flap is repositioned.
Conventional LASIK / SBK: a mechanical instrument creates the flap; SBK uses a thinner flap.
Femto / blade-free LASIK: a femtosecond laser creates the flap.
Contoura: corneal maps guide the excimer treatment pattern. It may be combined with a femtosecond flap.
The surface cell layer is removed, then an excimer laser reshapes the cornea. The surface layer regrows during healing; no LASIK flap is made.
TransPRK: the laser removes the surface layer as well as reshaping the cornea.
SmartSurfACE: a TransPRK-based approach.
Early discomfort and slower visual recovery are more common than with LASIK.
A laser creates a thin disc of tissue inside the cornea—a lenticule—which is removed through a small incision. No LASIK flap is made.
SMILE: uses a ZEISS VisuMax platform.
SILK: a distinct lenticule procedure using the Johnson & Johnson ELITA platform.
Suitability depends on prescription and eye measurements.

A lens is implanted inside the eye while the natural lens stays in place. This can be considered for selected high prescriptions or when corneal laser treatment is unsuitable.
Selected patients with high short sight, significant astigmatism or unsuitable corneal measurements. Depending on the design, IPCL may offer options for some long-sighted or near-vision needs.
Internal eye space, lens sizing, corneal endothelial cells, pressure, natural lens and retina. Thin corneas alone do not establish suitability.
This is intraocular surgery. Possible problems include pressure rise, cataract, infection, corneal cell loss or a lens that needs repositioning, exchange or removal. Follow-up is essential.
ICL and IPCL are different lens systems, with different materials and model ranges. Neither is automatically better. The proposed model, power and its indications will be explained after measurements.
Refractive lens exchange (RLE), also called clear lens extraction (CLE), removes the natural lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens. Delhi Eye Care offers this pathway for selected patients.
It may be relevant with presbyopia, significant long sight or early lens changes. The choice of monofocal, toric or presbyopia-correcting lens affects distance, near and night-vision trade-offs.
Follow the drops and review schedule given for your procedure. Do not rub the eye. Ask your surgeon when it is safe to drive, return to work, exercise or swim. Vision may fluctuate as healing continues.
Dryness, glare, halos, residual power and the later need for glasses should be discussed before corneal surgery. Implant and lens exchange procedures have additional intraocular risks, including pressure, infection and lens-related concerns. No technique guarantees perfect or permanent freedom from glasses.

There is no universal winner. Contoura is a topography-guided treatment pattern, SMILE and SILK are distinct procedures that avoid a LASIK flap, and ICL adds a lens inside the eye. Prescription, corneal health, internal eye space, age and visual priorities decide which are reasonable.
The goal is to reduce dependence on them. Some people still use glasses for selected tasks; reading needs change with age even after good distance correction.
Costs vary by procedure and individual plan. Ask for a written estimate specifying one or both eyes, investigations, medicines, reviews and any enhancement policy.
