Dr. Shashank Rai Gupta is an experienced ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in advanced retinal surgeries and medical retina management.
He is the Chairman and Founder of Delhi Eye Care and has served as a Senior Retina Consultant at leading institutions including Apollo Hospitals and Sunetra Eye Hospital. Previously, he was Senior Consultant and Head of Vitreo-Retina & Uveitis at Vasan Eye Care Hospitals, New Delhi, and Consultant at Venu Eye Institute & Research Centre.
With over 17 years of experience, his core expertise includes diabetic retinopathy, diabetic vitrectomy, macular surgeries, complex retinal detachments, and uveitis management.
Dr. Gupta has performed thousands of vitreoretinal surgeries and laser procedures. He is actively involved in research and has delivered keynote lectures at national and international conferences.
His surgical video on IOL-CTR Bag Subluxation Management was featured at the World Retina Video Contest at EuRetina 2018 — a mark of global recognition.

Retina education & leadership
Dr. Gupta founded the Delhi Retina Forum in 2011 to create a collaborative academic platform dedicated to retina education, surgical learning and meaningful clinical dialogue.
Today, DRF is a leading forum for retina education and the organiser of the Delhi Retina Meet—India’s only annual international meeting dedicated exclusively to retina—held since 2016. Its scientific programme brings together retinal specialists from India and across the world through focused sessions, case-based discussion, live surgical learning and international faculty engagement.
For Dr. Gupta, education is not separate from patient care. It is how better questions, safer decisions and stronger retinal services reach more people.

Research & academic work
Dr. Gupta’s published work covers diabetic macular oedema, anti-VEGF biosimilars, macular telangiectasia, retinal vascular disease and uncommon surgical problems. He has presented research at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and served as invited faculty at regional and national meetings.

Recognition & the person behind the practice
As Founder Chairman, Dr. Gupta accepted the recognition for Most Trusted Eye Hospital in Delhi NCR on behalf of Delhi Eye Care—a milestone reflecting the institution’s focus on specialist care, patient trust and responsible growth.
Outside ophthalmology, he is a long-distance runner who has completed multiple half marathons over more than a decade. Earlier, he represented Haryana in badminton at national level and was a state champion. The same endurance, preparation and focus shape his approach to surgery, institution-building and medical education.
